Koto Buckwheat is a popular all-around warm season annual that has many uses as a food plot crop with an abundance of seeds that appeal to a large number of the wildlife. Buckwheat grows well in almost any soil and is usually planted alone, produces clusters of small white flowers forming triangular shaped black seeds that shatter easily giving access for stalk feeding for smaller birds. Provides good ground cover and the stalks will remain after the seed shatters out thus providing additional cover for smaller wildlife. A great cover crop for enhancing soil, excellent summer food plot forage that is extremely early maturing with seed yields as fast as 7-10 weeks after emergence.

  • Soil Types: Wide variety of soils
  • Seeding Rate: 40-50 lbs. per acre
  • Planting Depth: 1-2 inch
  • Planting Date: April-Sept

White Grain Sorghum is an early maturing sorghum reaching mid-bloom at about 40-50 days after emergence. It is a short, fast maturing sorghum, and it will produce heads with seeds in 90 days or less. A mature plant will be 26-30" tall with seed becoming marginally palatable and edible at maturity. This sorghum makes excellent seed for all game birds, including quail, turkey, pheasants, doves and ducks. Deer will also feed heavily on the grain in fall and winter. This type of Sorghum is a most valuable source of winter food for quail and other wildlife.. The plants will tiller and keep producing additional heads as long as there is moisture until frost.

  • Soil Types: Wide variety, well-drained
  • Seeding Rate: 10-15 lbs. per acre
  • Planting Depth: ½ inch
  • Planting Date: April - July
Japanese Millet is a warm season, annual grass most commonly grown for forage, cover cropping, or wildlife habitat. Compared to other warm season grasses, it can tolerate wet soils and mild flooding. It is also considered a good smother crop for cover cropping because it can grow up to 4 feet in as little as 45 days, suppressing weed growth tremendously. If left to mature, it produces a large seed head that is a preferred food source for ducks, doves and turkeys. Japanese millet usually grows between 2-4 feet tall. This crop requires warm growing conditions and should not be planted until soil temperatures reach 65 degrees Fahrenheit or above.
  • Soil Types: Wide variety, well-drained
  • Seeding Rate: 12-20 lbs. per acre
  • Planting Depth: 1 inch
  • Planting Date: June - July

White Proso Millet is a fast growing, warm season grass.
